Morgan: Social Media Impacts Women

I am a 20-year-old female, a member of the generation labeled the “millennials.” Now, I’m not trying to stereotype my age group, but it’s no secret that most of us are quite knowledgeable about the Internet and the multifaceted world of social media. We’ve grown up with it, and it is something we have had to learn from a very young age in order to keep up in this society. Being an avid user of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media, I can say from experience that when it comes to spreading the Gospel, online networking is indeed an extremely powerful tool that should be put to use.

It never ceases to amaze me how small this world is becoming. You can chat with someone on the other side of the globe in a matter of seconds. Friends living on opposite ends of the country can Skype in mere moments. And social media allow people to connect with other people and organizations, to gather information about current world issues, and to publicly communicate whatever is on their minds when and wherever they feel like it.

Project Hannah understands the potential power that social media carry and uses it frequently to offer encouragement and to spread news about what God is doing through the ministry. The technology we have available to us opens doors for the love of Christ to be shared with thousands of people at lightning speed, and it provides various forums where fellow believers can go to encourage one another. From just a brief scroll down the Project Hannah Facebook page, I witnessed comments like “Praying for the healing of Africa,” “We are free, so let's stand in prayer with our sisters all around the world!” and “It is such a blessing to be able to pray for women every day. God bless you.”

Are you on Facebook? Go “like” the Project Hannah page and receive notifications on your timeline about the daily prayer calendar request. Are you immersed in the world of Twitter? Follow the ministry’s account and retweet posts so that your friends and family will see them. Are you creative like me and enjoy “pinning” various things on Pinterest? Well, pin away!

A hurting world is on our doorstep. And all it takes is the click of a button to offer hope to someone who may not receive it anywhere else. So how will you employ social media today to make a difference for the Kingdom?
