Ruth (Intern Insights)

Here in Cary, a lodge tucked away in picturesque North Carolina scenery is provided for the many guests TWR hosts throughout the year. As a summer intern this building is my home for two months, and I have the privilege of meeting missionaries and visitors from around the globe during their stay. Last week I had the pleasure of spending some time with Ruth Mbennah, or “Mama Ruth” as many call her, Project Hannah’s regional coordinator for Africa. What a beautiful woman with a compassionate spirit and a love for the Lord. Christ is clearly the driving force in her life, and it radiates through everything she does in action and word.

As I read Project Hannah stories from Africa, her name appears countless times, a testimony to the many lives she has touched. But one account in particular stood out to me. A women’s prayer group in Gauteng, South Africa meets every Wednesday to bring requests to the Lord. One of their meetings included Ruth as a special guest there to tell them about Project Hannah.

John 15:16 says, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” (ESV)

This passage along with The Great Commission to “go and make disciples of all nations” were the topics of discussion. Ruth focused on these scriptures in relation to Project Hannah’s Africa ministry and how vital prayer is to its success. Ruth ministers to women like this on a daily basis, speaking truth in to their lives and challenging them to start praying for the global plight of women as well. Our Heavenly Father desires that we talk to Him, that we ask Him to fulfill our needs so that He can display his awesome, life-changing power.  On this occasion, by the time Ruth departed the ladies were registered as a Project Hannah prayer group and were ready and excited to go out and encourage other African women with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

God, bless her ministry and give Ruth wisdom about how to use the limited resources You have provided her with.

Today, join me in praying for her as she continues meeting people and extending guidance, encouragement, and prayer in the name of the Lord.
