Peggy's Message

February 2013

Dear intercessor,

I truly believe that our words transformed in prayers can touch God’s heart and move his arm in miraculous ways. And I so appreciate your praying with me “for women and girls to choose purity” this month.

Do you remember the last time you heard a message, read an article, or watched a TV show about “choosing purity”? Such an outdated concept, isn’t it? For decades society has been trying to erase this word from our vocabulary. There is a systematic effort to blur the lines between good and evil, right and wrong. In most cultures today, there no longer is a moral compass guiding people in the right path.

In the awareness page of our calendar this month, my friend Tina Sessoms summarized well this issue: “Pornography destroys God’s purposes for men and women. Modern culture is saturated with perverted sex and lust. It is available through movies, television, books and pictures; and the Internet has made it easily available in the privacy of our homes. Christians must confront the dangers of pornography and prepare their children to resist it.”

We need to equip our daughters and granddaughters to stand firm in a world where to be beautiful is to be “sexy”; to be free is to be licentious; to do what “feels good” – not what IS good – is the “in thing.” We need to silence those lies with what the timeless word of God has to say about purity: “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God” (1 Thess. 4:3-5).

John 10:10 summarizes both the devil’s and Christ’s mission statements: Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. With a deadly lie, Satan destroyed Adam’s and Eve’s innocence. And he continues to lie to women everywhere! The messages with which the media bombard women and girls today are echoes of that lie! The goal is to destroy personal integrity and ultimately the God-given institution of the family based on one man and one woman.

While Satan came to destroy, Jesus came to give life! “I came that they may have life, and life abundantly.” He came to destroy the destroyer! He will lead this vulnerable generation to choose purity and to live in integrity, humility, simplicity, and grace.

Praying with you for our daughters, granddaughters, sisters, nieces, and girlfriends to be the women God intended them to be.
