Peggy's Message

August 2011

Dear praying friends,

As we pray for women affected by mutilation (FGM) and rape, let’s not forget that Christ is still victorious! We have received his power to lift up our voices on behalf of the voiceless withstanding evil in his name.

I remember being invited to speak about the suffering of women worldwide to a group of ladies in a gorgeous home.  Afterward, the hostess – a sensitive lady – confessed to me that just listening to women’s terrible pain offended her sensitivity. I understood because I am also disturbed by it, no matter how many times I hear their tales of horror.

Your sensitivity might be challenged as well this month. I encourage you to put on God’s armor (Ephesians 6) before engaging in this battle against the evils of FGM and rape – Satan’s most gruesome and cruel attacks on women. There is a sea of women who need to be rescued, healed and restored by the power of God. After stealing woman’s spiritual birthright at the fall, Satan imprinted his ugly face into her soul. He continues to haunt her with fear, violence and destruction. He is her arch-enemy (Genesis 3:15).

We may feel powerless to change such terrible circumstances, but God is able! He can and will change them. Let’s pray with boldness, believing he will bind the forces of evil! Let’s claim the promise that “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (James 5:16).

A few weeks ago, I was overjoyed to read that a law classifying FGM as crime with serious punishment for the offender was passed in Guinea Bissau. Still, in many countries rape is accepted as a weapon of war. Let’s pray for God to change laws and the hearts of wicked people. Pray for a generation of men who will protect and seek justice and dignity for every little girl and woman in their sphere of influence. I am curious to see what will happen in response to this month of fervent prayers 24/7 around the world and around the clock for these dear women.

Like my beautiful hostess, I would much rather concentrate on pleasant news like this new law in Africa. But this is war time, and too many rapes and cuttings are happening every minute of the day! Countless women are waiting to be rescued, restored, healed and saved. They need Jesus, the great lover of the oppressed and healer of the brokenhearted. When he comes into their lives, he will change their destiny here and eternally.

In his name together,
